TWO online events will take place this Thursday to kick-off a month’s worth of workshops in March as part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Age Friendly programme, supported by the Public Health Agency.
The series of workshops, which will cover a wide variety of topics, are aimed at persons aged 50 or over and aim to encourage people to reconnect and re-engage.
The first workshop will take place at 7pm this Thursday, 3rd March, and will look at menopause and diet.
The free online nutrition webinar will have expert advice from registered dieticians who will delve into what to eat during the perimenopause/menopause and participants will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions.
It will take place over Zoom and registration can be completed at https://tinyurl.com/meno-march
Anyone who is unable to attend the Menopause and Diet online event on Thursday evening can find some useful information and videos at: https://vimeo.com/showcase/8198914
The second workshop on Thursday evening will take place over Zoom at 8pm and focuses on ‘Being Mindful’.
It will explore the key concepts of mindfulness, and during the session participants will lean mindful breathing and movement, how stress affects the body, and how our senses can help settle and sooth stress responses.
Places are limited, therefore, to book please contact the DCSDC Age Friendly Co-ordinator by telephone on 028 7125 3253 or email [email protected]
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Graham Warke said: “These first two workshops are kicking off a series of wide-ranging and informative workshops that will take place throughout this month as part of our Age Friendly programme.
“I would encourage anyone aged 50 or over who is interested in taking part in any of the particular workshops to put their name forward.”
Some of the workshops to follow later in the month include saving money on a food shop, managing your mood, and looking after your sleep cycle.
