Said the Foyle MLA: “I was delighted to meet the staff and directors from the Centre which is based in the Ballymagroarty area.
“It provides a huge range of services to families, many of whom have low incomes, in the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal and Foyleside DEA areas.
“This includes family visiting services, a family support hub, one to one therapies, parenting and community education programmes and adult and children counselling.
“As well as delivering these core services, the centre also rolled out the Emergency Food programme throughout the COVID lockdowns.
“The facility also provides low-cost childcare services to the local area, through its creche, which is partly subsidised by the Department for Education through a yearly competitive application process.
“It is clear that the level of support that the creche receives is not sufficient to allow the facility to meet the level of demand from the local community.
“I have agreed to lobby the Department for Education to seek additional funding for the creche and to also lobby other relevant statutory agencies to ensure that the centre has the same salary scales and level of recognition as other community hubs across the North.”
