An inspection into the ten bedded assessment treatment unit for adults with a learning disability, found significant concerns around adult safeguarding, incident management as well as a need to improve care and treatment of patients.
Said the Foyle MLA: “People deserve dignity at the very least and it is upsetting to think that very vulnerable people are not getting the level of care they deserve.
“I know the staff are heroic in terms of the work they do and I acknowledge that significant progress has been made since the initial inspection in September 2021, however many concerns remain.
“It raises questions around whether the facility is adequately resourced.
“The issues within Lakeview are extensive including, cleanliness, concerns around meal times and overall concerns around the environment for patients which compromised privacy and dignity.
“The Western Trust have a responsibility to ensure that staff are adequately equipped to meet the needs of patients and that the unit is meeting basic care requirements.
“I’ve been assured that patients’ families will be kept abreast of actions being taken going forward and hope that immediate efforts are made by the Trust to improve conditions at Lakeview before the next inspection date of 10 September 2022.”
