Three arrested in Derry and Strabane over INLA activity

Officers from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force (PCTF), investigating offences linked to the INLA, have made three arrests in Derry and Strabane.

Two men, aged 59 years old and 64 years old, were arrested in Strabane today under the Terrorism Act and both are currently in custody.

A 40-year-old man arrested in Derry last night under the Terrorism Act and in relation to this ongoing investigation, remains in custody.

Also in Strabane today, police were in attendance in the Melmount Road area of the town where a funeral was being held.

Eddie ‘Wheels’ McGarrigle died on Sunday at his home in Strabane’s Melmount Gardens after a short battle with cancer.

The 56-year-old had been jailed in 2010 at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin for three years for INLA membership over a kidnap plot.

The PSNI said: “Evidence was gathered and, following the funeral, a number of items, including clothing, were seized.

“All evidence gathered will now be reviewed.”
