Said the Foyle MLA: “I know how important it is for many people in our community to access local services in-person, especially our older population or more vulnerable members of our community who want to have the opportunity to discuss their circumstances face-to-face.
“Over the past number of days, a number of constituents have raised with me concerns around the continued closure of the Customer Information Centre in Waterside House and the impact that this is having.
“Indeed, I understand that people have to be frequently turned away from the building, indicating a clear demand for the reinstatement of face-to-face services.
“While I fully appreciate the need to reduce the spread of Covid-19, it is important that this responsibility is balanced with the need to serve the public.
“It is clear that the picture has now changed since the start of the pandemic and many services have now re-opened safely.
“I believe that it is time for the centre in Waterside House to do the same.
“I have, therefore, written to the Finance Minister to urge him to reopen this centre so that its essential services are fully accessible to everyone.”
