People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin will call on Derry & Strabane Council to back the Workers Demand Better! campaign and get behind the Royal College of Nursing call for a 5% above inflation pay rise at this week’s full Council meeting.

People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin said: “The Workers Demand Better! campaign is sending the message we will no longer accept pay cuts and poverty pay while corporations post record profits and government funnels money to a handful of elites.

“Workers are taking action in unprecedented numbers and letting corporate profiteers and their government partners know enough is enough.

“All our health heroes need a real pay rise. Fair pay for our health and social care workforce is crucial to protecting the health service.

“People Before Profit back the Workers Demand Better! campaign and the RCN demand for a 5% above inflation pay rise.

“All the big parties here have continued to implement Tory pay cuts. They should now follow the leadership of trade unions and workers taking strike action by supporting the Workers Demand Better! campaign and calls for above inflation pay rises.

“Corporate profiteering and government for elites must end.”
