Detectives investigating an assault on a 35-year-old man in Carnhill in Derry on Monday night have arrested a 26-year-old man.
The man was arrested on suspicion of offences, including grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody this afternoon assisting officers with their enquiries.
The investigation continues into the attack in which up to seven men reportedly attacked a man and left him requiring hospital treatment for injuries to his legs, shoulder and head.
A 60-year-old woman was arrested yesterday in relation to the incident. She was later released on bail.
Detective Inspector Stephanie Finlay said: “This was a savage attack on the victim which we are working to establish a motive for.
“I’m appealing to anyone who was in the area last night and witnessed what occurred, who knows who was involved or saw any suspicious activity in the area to get in touch with us.”
