Foyle MP and SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood MP has launched a motion in Parliament on the contribution of the Derry Halloween Festival to the life and economy of Derry City.
He thanked the organisers of Europe’s biggest and best Halloween festival and said it was “only fitting” they should get the recognition they deserve.
Colum Eastwood MP said: “Derry is renowned for having the best Halloween celebration in Ireland and easily the biggest in the whole of Europe, going from strength to strength every year since it started over 35 years ago. In 2019, 140,000 visitors came to our city, took in the attractions of our mythical, creative and cultural history and experienced our famous hospitality.
“It’s only fitting that those who spend countless hours organising our annual Halloween festivities get the recognition they duly deserve. I’ve put on record as a motion in Parliament sincere congratulations to the organisers of the festival and all those involved throughout its rich history and extend a warm welcome to all those visiting Derry City in the coming days.
“I’m looking forward to the return of the world’s best Halloween festival to Derry and getting a good spot to watch the parade.”
