A young Co Derry man has appeared in court after being caught by Gardai traveling at 168kph in a 100kph speed zone.
Thomas Megaughin appeared at Letterkenny District Court after being stopped by Gardai at the Manorcunningham Roundabout on July 27th last.
Megaughin, aged 24 and from Dairyvale in Limavady, was driving a red Seat Leon while speeding at Rossbracken.
His solicitor Kieran O’Gorman initially asked Judge Éiteáin Cunningham if she would consider reducing the charge from one of dangerous driving to one of careless driving.
However, Judge Cunningham said she was concerned at the level of speed in the case.
She suggested the case be adjourned until Megaughin attended the next Pro Social Driving Course which is due to take place in February.
The accused was also ordered to pay €250 towards the cost of a place on the course.
The case was adjourned until May 8th to allow Megaughin to do the course.
