Police Derry City and Strabane say: “Officers have been listening to community concerns on the misuse of quads and scramblers in the Galliagh area and continue to work with partner agencies on this issue.
“Yesterday afternoon, Sunday, January 29, while on cycle patrol in Galliagh, officers stopped a man who had been driving this scrambler off-road in the area.
“The rider was subsequently arrested on suspicion of offences including driving when unfit through drink or drugs and dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without insurance and no L plates displayed.
“He was also arrested on suspicion of assault on police, and on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug.
“He’s since been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries.
“We want to reassure the public you we take this type of issue seriously.
“Not only is there the impact on people’s lives in the community, but there are also serious safety concerns.
“To anyone thinking about buying these vehicles, we’re urging you to first think about where it is going to be used and the legalities surrounding its use.”
