SDLP Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin attended the 50th anniversary of the North-West Regional College’s Springtown Campus earlier today.
Said Ms McLaughlin: “I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the staff and pupils of the North-West Regional College on this huge milestone.
“The importance of further education cannot be over-stated in its contribution to our local economy and there is no doubt that the need to raise the skills base in the city is at the heart of higher employment and better paying jobs in Derry.
“The truth is that we need to invest more in vocational education and our further education colleges, to support our staff and ensure that the remaining stigma against further education is tackled, both in the eyes of the public and in the way we reward and support our staff.
“I was very pleased to join the college today to celebrate today’s anniversary and can assure them of my support wherever possible going forward.”
