A 36-year-old man arrested in connection with the claim of responsibility made following the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell and as part of ongoing investigations into the activities of the New IRA has been released following questioning.
The investigation continues.
DCI Caldwell was shot four times while putting footballs into the boot of his car in Omagh last month.
He has been left with life changing injuries and is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
The New IRA claimed responsibility for the murder bid by pasting a typed statement onto a shop wall in Creggan days after the gun attack.
