EOD military vehicles in Derry as part of major security operation

The PSNI and ATO are conducting a major security operation in Derry against dissident republican activity.

The search centres on the Coshowen area again along Foyle Road.

Two bomb disposal units along with six EOD military vehicles arrived in the area earlier today.

It is believed the intelligence-led search by the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit, is being conducted to locate bomb-making material, guns and ammunition.

But Saoradh, the political wing of the New IRA, have condemned the searches.

In a statement, Saoradh say: “In what is becoming a frequent and familiar occurrence in Derry, Crown Forces accompanied by British Army personnel, have took to working class communities, sealed them off and proceeded to bust through the doors of people’s home.

“The continued targeting and profiling of Republican activists and their friends cannot go unchallenged.

“Saoradh call on those who continue to champion this type of British political policing to publicly explain why they support these actions.
