Said Cllr Norris: “After the devastating events of last summer, I regularly speak to neighbours who are living in fear of future flooding events threatening their homes and businesses and destroying their livelihoods.
“It cannot be right that we are letting people live with this threat hanging over them.
“Since becoming a Councillor, I have raised this issue consistently at the Environment and Regeneration Committee and have reached out to the Department to urge progress.
“We must finally give some peace of mind to the residents who have had to live in fear for far too long.”
SDLP Faughan Representative Hayley Canning added: “I am aware that at the last meeting of the Environment and Regeneration Committee DfI Rivers had no further updates on the Drumahoe and Eglinton studies.
“Of course, everyone understands that these proposals are complex and that re-evaluation needed to take place.
“However, we need to see progress on the long-awaited delivery on the flood alleviation schemes.
“Residents should not have to experience the stress and anxiety that this constant fear causes and the SDLP will not be found wanting in pressing for a resolution to the issue.”
