James Donegan (35), who was on remand, fled after being granted compassionate bail in October 2018.
At the time, the PSNI said Donegan, of Cornshell Fields, Derry was awaiting sentencing for serious offences, including attempted hijacking.
Officers believed he was moving between Derry and Donegal.
The PSNI issued an appeal on Facebook, which Donegan commented on.
An officer posted: “Hey Jimmy, don’t know if you’re aware but you’re currently wanted for arrest.
“You might want to think about having a wee chat with the old solicitor and handing yourself in. Pretty sure the judge won’t be thinking “oh, ha ha ha Jimmy, you’re good craic sir.”
Donegan, who styled himself as the ‘Gingerbread Man’, replied: “PSNI Limavady have a good word with my solicitor.
“I think I need one with myself, but cheers for your continuous concern and support.
“Great to see yous out earning your wages boys.”
At Derry Crown Court today, Monaghan was handed a two year sentence, divided equally between custody and supervised licence, for a series of motoring offences and breaching the terms of his compassionate bail conditions.
He was also banned from driving for seven years.
