A series of beautiful paintings by Ballybofey artist Veronica Maguire are now on display at the Alley Theatre’s gallery in Strabane.
‘Captivating Art in Locations and Nature’ is a collection inspired by Veronica’s longings to travel during lockdown.
During the pandemic, she missed traveling to the coast, the feeling the sand in her toes, the fresh sea air, the beautiful rugged landscapes and the countryside, so she escaped into her inner creative world.
She imagined the places she could not visit and turned them into striking paintings.
In these paintings Veronica has produced movement in the seas with the waves crashing against the rocks in a storm, also showing calm and stillness.
She created houses on cliff edges which depict emotions of being isolated and lonely and believes that this period brought out all these feelings to most of us during that time.
Mostly self-taught, Veronica’s art journey started in the year 2000 as a new year resolution, she quickly became hooked and hasn’t left the brushes down since.
Veronica started experimenting with alcohol inks a relatively new type of medium and produced a collection of unique paintings during lockdown.
Alcohol inks are a very difficult medium to control but it can give very unusual affects using her intuition and her imagination, she also uses photographs as reference.
Veronica’s preferred medium is oils and she also works in watercolour and has introduced new artwork into this exhibition to show the diversity in different types of mediums.
She would describe her style as diverse contemporary and colourful.
‘Captivating Art in Locations and Nature’ by Veronica Maguire is showing from Monday 10th July – Friday 4th August.
If you would like to meet the artist, come along and meet Veronica on Tuesday 18th July from 11am where Veronica will be available for a chat and a tour around the exhibition.
