A kind-hearted Derry barber is proving he is a cut above the rest by offering free haircuts to children going back to school.
Kevin Galbraith said he wanted to “do something” to help struggling families amid the deepening cost-of-living crisis.
Kevin, who owns Blade Barber Co in McGinley’s Retail Park off the Buncrana Road, said it’s a “shocking state of affairs” that he felt compelled to help out in the first place.
The big-hearted barber told the Daily Mirror: “It’s not much but I’m sure it can help people.
“I decided to do it on Tuesday and all our appointments are filled up already.
“It got great feedback and people shared it all over social media.
“Every Christmas time I would do something and, as you know, people are getting it tight with the cost of living and everything else.
“I just thought I would so something for the kids going back to school. It might seem much – eight pound for a kid’s haircut – but for some people it is.”
Kevin added: “It’s a shocking state of affairs to have to do this in the first place – everything has gone up in price, school supplies, uniforms, everything. It’s not much but I’m sure it can help people, which it has.
“I keep it discrete because people can be embarrassed – but they shouldn’t be, it’s not their fault, it’s obviously down to the government and the way things have been handled.”
