Translink has announced it will be providing additional bus services to Derry to help more people enjoy the city’s famous Halloween festivities.
The announcement follows the roll-out of the new zero emission Foyle Metro bus fleet and the new express Goldliner coach services to and from Belfast, which reduced journey times by around 15 minutes.
The new Foyle Metro timetable enhancements came into effect on October 23, with later evening and weekend services coming into effect from October 27.
Travellers will also be able to avail of these additional Ulsterbus departures from Foyle Street on Halloween night (October 31), allowing people to make the most of the festivities in the city:
22.00 – 212 service going to Belfast
21.45 – 98 service going to Strabane
21.45 – 145 service going to Greysteel, Eglinton via Strathfoyle
21:45 – Cityside bus A serving – Slievemore, Skeoge and Culmore
21:45 – Cityside bus B serving – Creggan, Hazelbank, Ballymagroarty
21:45 – Waterside bus serving – Kilfennan, Gobnascale, Curryneirin
Contactless ticketing is now available on all Derry buses and coaches.
Those planning on travelling to the city from further afield during the Halloween period can also avail of Translink’s Family and Friends day ticket for £23, which includes unlimited day travel on all services – both bus and rail – within Northern Ireland.
This ticket permits up to two adults and four children.
Cllr Patricia Logue, Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District Council, said: “Much like the launch of Translink’s Foyle Metro zero emission fleet, we’re thrilled to welcome the convenience and availability of the additional services for the busy Halloween period.
“As we gear up for Europe’s biggest Halloween festival, I commend Translink for their efforts in enhancing our public transport services.
Sarah Simpson, Translink Area Manager, added: “We are pleased to be offering enhanced public transport services, particularly as the Halloween festivities get underway in Derry.
“With these additional services, we hope to attract even more people to make the switch away from private motoring, enjoy the benefits of public transport and help create a better-connected, cleaner and greener future for everyone.”
As Europe’s biggest Halloween festival descends upon Derry, Translink welcomed ‘Maud the Skeleton’ into the North West Transport Hub via train before hopping onboard an emissions-free bus for a tour of the city.
Foyle Street Bus Station will also welcome 250 children as part of the Derry Halloween Trick or Treat Trail.
For those who want to see the Halloween fireworks display, which takes place on October 31 at 8.30pm, the 9.38pm train departure from the North West Transport Hub will offer spectators a safe and convenient way home.
