The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council lit up Council buildings in green this week to highlight Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month.
In conjunction with OGCancer NI, the Mayor lit up Council offices in Derry and Strabane on Thursday night to raise awareness for oesophageal cancer. Oesophageal cancer is a caner that’s found anywhere in the oesphagus, which is sometimes called the gullet or food pipe.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Patricia Logue, said she was honored to highlight such an important cause by illuminating Council buildings in green this week.
“Council buildings including both offices in Derry and Strabane, will be lit up in green this week to raise awareness for Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month and all the brilliant work that OGCancer NI continue to do throughout the province.
“Stomach and Oesophageal cancer continues to affect people across our city and district and I would like to use this opportunity to not only signpost patients and caregivers to this brilliant charity, but to also let them know we are there to support them.
“OGCancer NI have a huge range of support services, insightful information and can direct those affected to the healthcare providers they should be in touch with.”
OG Cancer NI is a locally based registered charity, formed specifically to benefit patients and families affected by oesophageal and gastric (stomach) cancer.
The medical term for these cancers is Oesophago-gastric cancer.
Their mission is support patients and care givers affected by Oesophago-Gastric Cancer, communicate the early signs and symptoms to promote early intervention and advocate and promote the best outcomes for patients.
OGCancer NI works with a range of healthcare providers and multi-disciplinary teams in the Belfast City Hospital to improve patient pathways and supports research in all areas of Oesophago-gastric cancer.
