Residents were urged to keep their windows closed as dozens of firefighters battle a major blaze in the city.
The fire broke out at the site of the former Lisneal College (Faughan Valley Campus) on Drumahoe Road on Sunday evening.
A NIFRS spokesperson confirmed 50 firefighters are currently in attendance at the derelict building.
“NIFRS have been in attendance since 8.17pm on Sunday,” they said.
“The fire is in two storey section of the building.
“There are currently 50 firefighters in attendance along with seven pumping appliances, one aerial appliance and a command support unit.
“Operations will continue for some time, and local residents are advised to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed while the incident is ongoing.
“Firefighters are working as quickly as possible to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.”
