A Gaza Freedom Flotilla motion has been passed by members at the full monthly meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council.

It was proposed by People Before Profit Foyleside Councillor Shaun Harkin and passed at the full DCSDC meeting on Wednesday, April 25.

The motion reads: “Council sends our solidarity to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition urgently waiting to depart Istanbul with a ship filled with 5,500 tons of humanitarian aid bound for Gaza.

“Council will write to Joe Kennedy III, the Biden Administration’s Special Envoy to NI for Economic Affairs, and Claire Cronin, US Ambassador to Ireland, calling on the US government to remove obstacles to the Freedom Flotilla sailing, to ensure its safe passage to Gaza and to immediately halt all military support for Israel’s continued Gaza genocide.”
