The former owner of Inish Adventures, Adrian was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2022.
But he never allowed the condition to define him.
He embarked on planning an ambitious “Summit 2 Sea” charity challenge – where teams across the country climbed the highest peaks in every county on the island of Ireland, while at the same time a relay of rowers traveled around Ireland.
Amazing Adrian, 54, himself took on the final leg of the row in April.
The challenge raised more than €70,000 which went directly to motor neurone disease research.
A message from Inish Adventures broke the heartbreaking news that Adrian had passed away.
The message on the company’s Facebook page said simply “We will be closed this weekend due to our main man Adrian Harkin passing away! He was a true inspiration and will forever be our hero.”
Tributes are pouring in on social media for Adrian, who was originally from Derry but who made his home in Moville.
Marie Quigg wrote “Condolences to all the family. Adrian was a character always helping & encouraging kids sea kayaking.“R.I.P Adrian.”
Belinda Doherty wrote: “So sorry to hear this, condolences to all the family. Adrian was a gentleman and always good to me.”
Danny J McLaughlin said: “A great man has left us all. May you rest well Adrian. You will be sorely missed.”
