A man from Derry has pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a woman in a park in Donegal.
Billy Diver has appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court, where he was formally arraigned before Judge John Aylmer.
The 25-year-old, with an address at Labre Park in Derry, spoke only to plead guilty to the charge.
Diver is charged with the sexual assault of a woman, who cannot be named, on June 24, 2020, in Buncrana’s Swan Park.
He is charged that he did sexually assault a woman by touching the woman’s bottom, by placing the woman’s hand on his penis outside of his clothing and by touching the woman’s genitals outside of her clothing.
Ms Fiona Crawford BL, counsel for the State, told the court that the matter was initially listed for trial.
Diver recently changed his legal team with solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher coming on record.
Barrister for Diver, Mr Peter Nolan BL, asked for a probation and welfare report to be prepared and said his client may be suitable for community service.
Mr Nolan also asked that legal aid be extended to cover the preparation of a psychiatric report.
Judge Aylmer adjourned the matter to the October session of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
