Two Limavady men have been sentenced following an attempted robbery of a shop in nearby Drumsurn.
David Dickson (31) of Anderson Park and Luke Hasson (32) of Petrie Place appeared before Antrim Crown Court this week.
Dickson was sentenced to four-and-a-half years’ imprisonment – half in prison and half on licence – for attempted robbery while Hasson received a 12-month sentence suspended for two years in relation to the offence of assisting an offender.
The convictions follow the attempted robbery of a shop on Drumsurn Road on 25th June 2021.
A detective sergeant said: “This was a terrifying experience for those working in this local shop on a Friday afternoon. They were threatened during the course of this robbery by a masked man armed with a kitchen knife and would have felt genuine fear.
“The intruder then left empty-handed and was driven off from the scene.
“Our extensive and determined investigation over five months resulted in both Dickson and Hasson being charged in connection with this and today we see that justice has been done..
“They have been held to account for their actions and we’d like to thank the public who responded so willingly to our appeal for information at the time.
“I hope this sentencing sends out a clear message to anyone who thinks they can get away with this type of crime on our essential community stores.
“We will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that that victims receive the justice they deserve.”
