Man released over seizure of AKM assault rifle in Derry

A 24-year-old man arrested under the Terrorism Act in Derry by the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU) has been released following questioning.

The investigation continues.

He was arrested following the seizure in May of an AKM assault rifle and ammunition follow a covert surveillance operation against New IRA suspects transport the weapon in Derry.

As part of the investigation two men, aged 56 and 59, were charged with offences and appeared before Derry Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 24.

Both were remanded in custody.
