Police in Derry dealing with ‘security alert and public disorder’

Police in Derry are currently at the scene of a security alert in the city.

Cordons are in place at Southway in Creggan after a suspicious object was found.

The disorder started after officers were attending the scene of a sudden death in the area.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers in attendance are also dealing with ongoing disorder.

“Masonry, petrol bombs and other items have been thrown resulting in damage to a number of vehicles.

“We would urge the public to avoid the area.

“An update will be provided in due course.”
