AFTER almost half a century of devotion and dedication to her job with the local council, Fionnuala O’Kane bowed out this week surrounded by work colleagues and the First Citizen as she looked forward to a well deserved retirement.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Lilian Seenoi-Barr, said: “It was a pleasure to attend this week the retirement of Council employee Fionnuala O’Kane and acknowledge an incredible 47 years’ service.
“What a fantastic achievement!!
“Fionnuala commenced employment with the former Strabane District Council in 1977 where she worked as Centre Manager/Leisure Services Officer at Riversdale Leisure Centre on 1 April 1977 before taking on a Corporate Policy Officer role at the Derry Road offices in 2011.
“With the establishment of the new Derry City and Strabane District Council Fionnuala worked as a Policy Officer.
“She was responsible for the development and implementation of Council’s corporate policies, strategies and initiatives.
“In her role Fionnuala also acted as a Designated Officer in relation to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
“It was great to see so many of her colleagues and friends come together today to wish her a happy retirement.
“Thank you for your loyal service to the public Fionnuala.
“You will be greatly missed.
“Enjoy a healthy and happy retirement with your family and friends.”
