The man is due to appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 21, for a first remand hearing.
As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The charge follows the discovery of a woman’s body, which had sustained a number of stab wounds, at a house in the Ashgrove Park area of the town on Sunday afternoon.
Detectives continue to conduct a number of enquiries into this incident.
