Derry City remain firmly in the mix for a league and cup double with just a few months left in the season.
They travel to Waterford’s Regional Sports Centre for this evening’s clash (kick off 7.45 pm) looking to keep in the hunt for the league title.
The main concern is City don’t look like finding the performances necessary to overhaul Shelbourne.
The gap is just two points, even if the leaders have a game in hand, so it’s just a matter of trying to better Damien Duff’s side each week.
City added Andre Wisdom to their squad this week. Patrick McEleney is also on the verge of a return which could be a game-changer.
One big problem has been getting service to Patrick Hoban. Despite being the top scorer in the league, Hoban has scored just once since early June.
It’s rare he goes more than four games. Four of his 12 goals this year have come against the Blues so this may be the perfect time to hit the goal trail once again.
Keith Long has done a magnificent job with Waterford.
The Cup exit was a body blow, so it will be fascinating to see how they will respond.
Their spirit was evident when coming from 2-0 to win in Dalymount Park in their last league fixture
Waterford are now in third place in the league with six points behind Derry City. A win this evening will narrow that gap to just three points.
Niall O’Keeffe will miss the game to an ankle injury. Kacper Skwierzcynski will also miss the game through illness.
Kyle White (hamstring) Sam Sargeant (hand) both remain injured.
Darragh Leahy is available for selection, having his red-card against Athlone last Friday overturned.
