United Against Racism have condemned racist and sectarian graffiti that has been daubed on new houses on the Church Brae area of the Waterside.
Spokesperson Davy McAuley claims that the graffiti is not representative of the area: “This is close to where I grew up. It’s a diverse and forward looking community.
“The person or persons responsible for this are pathetic and in no way representative of the area.
“Cowards who skulk around at night trying to intimidate and frighten people are sad and tragic individuals, consumed by bigotry and hatred.
“This graffiti should be removed at once.
“United Against Racism stand foursquare against all forms of division.
“Sectarianism and racism are two sides of the one coin and we will not allow hatred to spread across our communities.
“The DUP have been half hearted in their condemnation of the racist upsurge in the North.
“They have talked of ‘reasonable concerns’ of racist rioters.
“Now is the time for them to step up to the plate, work for the communities who elect them and speak out loudly and unequivocally against racist acts like this.
“The Waterside rejects racism.”
