Event organizer Christoper Ferry hit ‘back of the net’ by raising over £1000 for Palestine at the weekend.
Local businessman Christopher Ferry of Ferry Clever, orchestrated the charity football match on Sunday. The match saw Derry City legends Tommy Mc Callion, Sean Hargan and Eddie Mc Callion take on the ‘Derry for Palestine’ team which included event coordinator Christoper alongside celebrity DJ Provai, of band Kneecap, fresh off the band’s American tour.
Chris stated “Today is about showing solidarity for Palestine, as a local business I thought to myself using my platform what can I do, and there’s not much we can do, but we can use our platform to raise some money for Hilda – who has been doing money drops and food drops to Palestine.
“We’re always doing fundraising things so we wanted to mix it up a bit and get the Derry City Legends involved and the likes of Dj Provai from Kneecap involved.”
The money raised from today’s match will go to Derry ISPC/Hild Orr, and will be used for the Fund a Food drop for Gaza.
Catherine Hutton of Derry ISPC spoke on how important fundraisers like today are.
“The people of the city are so so generous, were just trying to keep people engaged and keep people aware of what is going on because it’s very hard we’re now up to 370 days, we are trying to do our best and I think people feel helpless and sometimes donating money is the only way they feel they can help.”
The match took place on Sunday – October 13 at Leafair pitches in Derry. Kick-off began at 2pm, with attendees in delight at the intensity of the match. The final result was Legends 3-5 Derry for Palestine.
Chris stated that Ferry Clever has more fundraisers coming up for the cause, the next one being Christmas, with the business offering its continued help until this ‘stops’.
“The more eyes that’s on it definitely helps sharing the madness that’s going on in the world and if you remain silent then it’s just going to keep happening and the only thing we can do is get it out there as much as we can.
This fundraising football match is a great turnout today and hopefully it’s another stepping stone to helping Palestine for Hilda.”
Kneecap’s DJ Provai said he took part as he felt that it was important to get the message across to the people of Palestine that they are being supported.
“I thought it was important to highlight the fact that there is still a genocide happening that needs to stop. It’s important for the Palestinian people to know that people are supporting them still and they’re not forgotten and that we stand in solidarity with them.”
