A controversial pub awning which partially obscures part of the Derry Girls mural in Derry has been re-erected just days after it had been taken down.
The outdoor awning at Badger’s Bar on Orchard Street first went up in early September.
It was taken down on Monday.
But workmen were spotted on Thursday putting it back up again.
The location was used on Wednesday for filming of Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee’s new Netflix comedy series, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast.
The mural has become one of the most visited sites in Derry since it was first unveiled in 2019.
It now forms part of walking tours of the city with tourists posing at the site to have their picture taken.
Thousands of visitors have flocked to the pub mural of Erin, Michelle, Orla, Clare, and “the wee English fella” James.
Tourists expressed their disappointment they could not see the mural because of the awning.
It is also the subject of an investigation by the local council, who have planning responsibility.
Planning permission for an awning was granted in 2022.
A Derry City and Strabane District Council spokesperson said earlier this week the permission “did not include the awning and structure in the elevation where the Derry Girls mural is located”.
