Staff at Foyleside Family Practice are working together with their MDT Social Work Team to raise awareness among their patient community about domestic abuse, how to spot the signs, and support both male and female victims.
The Western Trust say: “Domestic abuse can include, but is not limited to, incidents or patterns of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence.
“Staff at Foyleside Family Practice know from our work that domestic abuse is very common, but it is often difficult to accurately quantify and talk about.
“Statistics from PSNI, highlight that 1 in every 4 women, and 1 in every 6 males will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and that 24 women since 2020, have been murdered in Northern Ireland as a result of domestic abuse.
“Staff at Foyleside Family Practice want their practice patients to know that the practice is a safe place to talk, receive support, and explore various safety options.
“When in the practice you can talk to any health care professional, or ask for support from our care navigators, who will book you an appointment with our Senior Social Work Practitioner.
“We can all do something to challenge abuse. Let’s all be part of the change.
