Ms McLaughlin said: “I welcome that the North of Ireland economy is showing signs of strong labour market performance and sectoral growth in construction and services.
“Given we are in the middle of a housing crisis, it is absolutely paramount that we continue to see growth in the construction sector.
“Northern Ireland must get building if we are to ensure the social housing waiting list does not continue to spiral out of control.
“Whilst this growth is welcome, the risks of inflation, higher interest rates, and demographic pressures still loom large.
“We need strategic investment from the NI Executive to sustain growth and ensure vital public services like health and education are protected.
“The North of Ireland also needs a cohesive workforce strategy in place to ensure we are actively addressing economic activity and the ageing population.
“Stakeholders are continuously telling me that it is an Executive failure not to ensure older people have the option to stay in work if they wish.
“The future growth of our economy depends on maximising our workforce and supporting sectors facing critical shortages. With the right decisions, we can ensure a robust recovery that benefits all.
“The onus is on the Executive to act swiftly in addressing public sector pressures, we need to see greater investment right across the North.
“From major infrastructure projects to health reform, all of these sectors will be vital in ensuring the Northern Ireland economy is able to deliver the growth and stability businesses so desperately needs.”
