Ex-boxing champ Carl Frampton officially has unveiled a new mural at a Co Derry jail depicting some of the North of Ireland’s biggest sports stars.
The former two-weight world champion unveiled the mural, which was painted by two inmates, at Magilligan Prison, medium security compound.
The mural features record goal scorer and current Linfield manager David Healy, champion jockey AP McCoy and north Belfast fighter Frampton.
It also depicts some of Northern Ireland’s best known landmarks, such as the Giant’s Causeway, Titanic Belfast and Harland and Wolff’s iconic Samson and Goliath cranes.
In a post on Instagram, the 37-year-old said some of those who are currently in Magilligan deserve a second chance after making bad choices.
“I visited HMP Magilligan on Tuesday to say a few words to the inmates and officially open a mural that was done by two of them,” said Frampton.
“I ate great food, cooked by the inmates, saw great projects that the guys have been building for people on the outside and saw amazing art like the mural above. There was a lot of talented men inside.
“Not all of the people in there are bad.
“Some good people who have made bad choices and deserve a second chance.”
