James McClean’s wife Erin has paid her her thanks and relief after the football star was involved in a horror crash which saw his Audi car ‘written off’.

The popular Derry man native was caught up in the crash on his way to training on Wednesday, January 22, ahead of his team’s anticipated match against Birmingham.

A concerned supporter commented: “Just seen James McClean in a car crash.”

They added: “Written his car off and holding a bleeding arm. Doesn’t look good. He was walking around his black Audi. Smashed up. Loads of cops.”

Heavy fog is reported to have blanketed Wrexham on Wednesday morning.

Wrexham confirmed that a first team player was involved in a crash on the way to training.

The statement said: “Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first-team player has been involved in a car accident this morning on his way to training.

“It was a single car accident with no other vehicles involved and the relevant local authorities were quickly present at the scene.

“The player reported to the club this morning and will undergo further medical checks as a precaution.”

Taking to social media to share a picture of her hand on her husband’s knee and what appeared to be a bandage on the footballer’s arm, wife Erin wrote: “Leaving today feeling extremely thankful and blessed”, alongside a heart emoji.

She added: “Thank you for your messages and kind words.”

North Wales Police added: “Shortly before 9am this morning (Wednesday, January 22), we received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A534 in Wrexham, near to Wrexham Golf Club.

“Officers and colleagues from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which had blocked the road until the vehicle was recovered shortly before 10am.

“No serious injuries were reported from the scene.”
