The international religious bookstore chain, St Paul’s, is to open a new Derry in the coming months.
The move comes just two months after the city lost Veritas when it closed its doors for the final time on Friday 13th of December.
According to The Irish Catholic newspaper, St Paul’s will open a second north west outlet in Letterkenny. The town’s Veritas shop also closed at the end of last year.
Located on Letterkenny’s Main Street, the former Veritas shop contained a small chapel where a special mass was held to mark its closure.
Speaking at the mass, the retired Catholic Bishop Philip Boyce, maintained that it was one of the company’s shops throughout the country that wasn’t running at a loss.
In his introductory words, Bishop Boyce said he never thought there would come a day when he’d be celebrating Mass to mark the closure of Veritas’s Letterkenny store.
Former Veritas manager, Sheila Macken, will play an active role in the St Paul’s store in Letterkenny.
The exact opening date for the Derry branch has yet to be confirmed.
