Murder victim Stephen Holmes
Dylan McCrossan returned to Strabane Magistrates’ Court today where a charge of grievous bodily harm was upgraded to murder after the victim, a father of two, passed away and the case was reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Mr Holmes sustained what were described in court as “significant injuries” following an attack in Strabane on February 3.
The 31-year-old was being treated in the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he passed away from his injuries five days later.
Dylan McCrossan, the brother of SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan, had appeared in court a week ago charged with grievous bodily harm.
He was further accused of possessing cocaine and the prescription-only drug Pregabalin, also known as Lyrica.
Following Mr Holmes’ death the PSNI issued a statement advising that a murder investigation had commenced and the charges against Dylan McCrossan (31), from Beechmount Village, Strabane, would be reviewed.
McCrossan was remanded into continuing custody to Maghaberry Prison following today’s hearing.
He appear in court again by video-link next month.
