Michael Duffy with Derry’s only goal of the game
The League champions were already 3-1 up at half-time when floodlight failure caused a lengthy delay to the start of the second half.
“I’m not sure it was, 55 minutes was a long time,” said Lynch.
“If my team was 3-1 up, I’m sure I’d have wanted the game to go ahead and I totally get that.
“The big thing from our end is making sure the safety of the players, but we got through it. We take it on the chin and we go on.”
A Sean Boyd double, the latter coming from the penalty spot, and Evan Caffrey’s goal were enough to get Damien Duff’s side off to a winning start, with Michael Duffy’s header briefly having drawn the visitors level in the opening stages.
In what was Lynch’s first competitive game since leaving back-to-back Irish Premiership champions Larne for the Candystripes, he was able to start three of his recently added Northern Ireland internationals in Liam Boyce, Shane Ferguson and Carl Winchester, while he brought another, Gavin Whyte, off the bench.
However, they were second best on what Lynch called a “really disappointing night” in Dublin. The former Glentoran assistant added, however, that he saw “glimpses” of the team he is trying to build.
“I think anyone that thought that we were going to come in and blow everyone away was a bit naïve,” he said.
“This was always going to be a process, something that we had to work out.
“We’re going to have good days in this, we’re going to have bad days in this.
“There’s a lot of work to be done but I’ve no doubt in my mind you saw glimpses that show how good this team is going to be.”
Next up for the Candystripes is a home clash against Bohemians on Friday, February 21.
