
Derry runner Conor Kelly
He joins Finn Valley AC’s Arlene Crossan and Mark English in the squad.
Kelly will be competing in the men’s 4 x 400 metres race.
Last Sunday Kelly, who won bronze at last summer’s European Under-18 Championships outdoors, bettered the national under-20 record of 46.63 he set in heats when he took victory in 46. 54 seconds at he Irish Indoor Athletics Championship at Abbotstown.
The 17-year-old finished exactly a second ahead of UCD’s David Bosch as Athenry talent Sean Doggett had to settle for third place in 47.69 with Jack Raftery pulling up because of injury on the back straight.
Athletics Ireland has announced a final squad selection for the games which take place in the Netherlands from March 6th –9th.
The squad includes athletes who have been confirmed as qualified by rank by European Athletics and completes an exciting Irish team who will start to depart for Apeldoorn early next week.
Four-time European championship medallist, Mark English, returns to international action and is selected in the 800m following his record-breaking performance earlier this season.
His in-form Finn Valley colleague, Arlene Crossan, has been named alongside Olympians Sharlene Mawdsley and Phil Healy in the women’s 4x400m team. Crossan will be joined by her club coach, Shauna Carlin.

The team will be spearheaded in the individual events by a host of Olympians including English, Sharlene Mawdsley (400m), Sarah Healy (3000m), Jodie McCann (3000m), Sarah Lavin (60mH), Kate O’Connor (Pen), Andrew Coscoran (1500m), and Cathal Doyle (1500m).
Lauren Cadden (Sligo AC) earns her first senior international vest as an individual and will be eager to put in a bold showing in the women’s 400m as she looks to stake a claim on a strong looking women’s relay team.
